The Salwa is the bird known as the quail or Saman. The mention of Salwa (quail) appears in three verses of the Holy Quran. In the words of Allah: "And We shaded you with clouds and sent down upon you manna and quail, [saying], 'Eat from the good things with which We have provided you.' And they did not wrong Us, but they were wronging themselves." Surah Al-Baqarah, verse 57. And in the words of Allah: "And We divided them into twelve tribes, nations. And We inspired to Moses when his people asked him for water, 'Strike the stone with your staff'; and there gushed forth from it twelve springs. Every people knew their watering place. And We shaded them with clouds and sent down upon them manna and quail: 'Eat from the good things with which We have provided you.' And they did not wrong Us, but they were wronging themselves." Surah Al-A'raf, verse 160. And in the words of Allah: "O Children of Israel! Indeed, We saved you from your enemy, and We made an appointment with you at the right side of the Mount, and We sent down upon you manna and quail." Surah Ta-Ha, verse 80.
