Bilateral Discussion: Reputation and Public Opinion on the Balance – Should I Even Care?

In our societies, reputation and what others say are among the most important drivers of behavior for the vast majority of individuals, and among the primary deterrents preventing them from engaging in many actions—even if they are personally convinced of them. Here, individuals tend to care about 'what people say' to an extent that may exceed their concern for themselves, from daily behaviors to life-changing decisions. Many of us do not necessarily view this as negative, given that humans are inherently "social beings," and thus have little control over not caring about others' opinions of them. We will discuss this matter from entirely different perspectives, attempting to dive deep into the idea, to broaden our understanding and express our thoughts in a space free from judgment and labeling. Discussion Format: Each person will discuss the topic with another individual for 9–10 minutes to hear more transparent and honest ideas, then move to another person until six rounds are completed.
