When Speech Is Put to the Test: The Philosophy of Constructing and Deconstructing Arguments The following paper will be discussed: https://journals.indianapolis.iu.edu/index.php/teachingwriting/article/download/821/810/2733 We live surrounded by arguments and ideas at every moment: in a passing conversation with a friend, in a family discussion, or in a lecture hall. Yet the philosophical question remains: Does everything we hear carry truth? How do we distinguish between a strong argument grounded in solid reasoning and empty speech that collapses at the first question? And why do we so often accept persuasion without reflection or critical thinking? ✨ In this meeting, we will discuss: What is meant by "argument" and the philosophy behind its construction. How Toulmin's model helps us analyze any discussion and uncover its underlying logic. Real-life examples from our context illustrating how we test the strength and weakness of arguments. Reviewing a special document explaining the argument construction model, which will be the focus of our dialogue… Therefore, it is essential that all attendees review it in advance. 📍 Riyadh - The venue will be determined later due to limited capacity 🗓️ Date: Wednesday, August 27 ⏰ Time: 8:00 PM
